An ultimate example of porcelain hand painting, This pattern, first created in 1860 by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory of Hungary, was to honor the Rothschild family of Europe. The background story is of the Baroness Rothschild and her lost pearl necklace. It is told that the baroness lost her necklace one day in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later, the gardener found beautiful birds playing with the precious necklace in a tree. This became the inspiration for the twelve different motifs in the Rothschild Bird pieces, a collection intentionally created for the Rothschilds. Herend has successfully recreated the, hand painted illustrations on elegant, high-grade porcelain. The smooth white porcelain body and hand painted designs invoke the passion of great sculptors and master painters in every piece manufactured for over 180 years. This piece has not been available even through the company for over 10 years.
