Offered is this 7-piece dessert or tea set hand painted in Hungary by Herend. The pattern on this fine porcelain china is Queen Victoria. It features colorful painted butterflies and exotic flowers and foliage on each piece. Queen Victoria is one of Herends classic patterns, named after the famous English queen who reportedly bought a set of this porcelain when it was first introduced more than a hundred years ago. The Queen Victoria design was first exhibited in 1851 at the Great Exhibition in London. The story goes that Queen Victoria was so taken by the colorful design that she ordered the first dinner service for herself, thus lending her name to the decorative motif. The gently scalloped blank features an embossed basketweave design on the rim, which is outlined in pastel mint-green. Tiny painted flowers appear on the underside rim. Designs of gold trim are spaced around the rim. The round dessert or cookie tray measures 10 inches in diameter (25.5 cm). The six individual plates measure 4 7/8 inches in diameter (12.5 cm). The plates are the perfect size for serving tea biscuits (cookies) or petits fours (bite-size cakes or confections). The small plates are numbered 512B VBO. The round tray is numbered 524B VBO. Excellent used condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or other damage. Gold trim in excellent condition. The item will be insured.
